INTRODUCTION TO STYLES OF PIZZA’S:
There is a saying that money cannot help in buying happiness but it is not so, as they would not have spent their money on pizza. For me, pizza is the real happiness as it helps in removing my stress and pain and I hope many would accept this statement. In India pizza shops are plenty of the Domino’s pizza, pizza hut and pizza corner and so on. The styles of pizza would be Margherita, double cheese Margherita, farmhouse, peppy paneer, Mexican green wave, deluxe veggie and cheese and corn pizza. These are some Styles of Pizza’s available here but apart from these styles, there are certain styles which people do not know of their existence.
Pizza is healthy and can be made at home if you fear of bad cooking in shops. Pizza is an Italian dish which had its origin in 10th century from the southern Italian town of Lazio by way of a Latin Manuscript. It is a common fast food in North America and is also delivered to our doorstep. Pizza is sold as frozen also which got its popularity in 20th century. Fresh pizza has always been popular in cafes and independent restaurants. There has been a belief that foods similar to pizza were made during the Neolithic age and then in 19th-century modern pizza originated from flatbread dishes. Margherita pizza came in 1889 and the other styles continued to come. Now pizza is the favourite food for kids with its cheesy look.
LIST OF DIFFERENT STYLES OF PIZZA’S:
This is the original pizza and has its history that dates back to 18th century Naples. This pizza has left Italy and arrived in the USA. Earlier it was cheap which helped the poorer citizens to purchase them. It consists of a flatbread which had tomatoes, oil, garlic, and cheese. Now it has three variations like the

The dough is same as the Neapolitan one and has an array of strange items on it. Chef Ed LaDou was the one who tried it out and gave it to Chef Wolfgang Puck and he was totally impressed. He was hired immediately to the Spago in 1982 where he continued his work and created innovative pizzas. Barbeque chicken pizza was also created and it gained popularity in California at a short period of time. This pizza consisted of ricotta, red peppers, pate, and mustard.
TOMATO PIE PIZZA:
This is for tomato and sauce lovers. It may be in the shape of a square or round and consists of a thick sauce with a sprinkling of Romano or Parmesan cheese and tomato sauce, oregano and olive oil.
Sicilian is synonymous with the word “Square” which denotes the shape of a pizza. Had its origin in Italy, Sicily. These are made on a pizza pan and is not a deep dish. Ingredients of this are tomatoes, onions, few herbs of your choice, parmesan and cheese like the mozzarella.
DETROIT STYLE OF PIZZA:
It is similar to the Sicilian style and is also a square sized one which has a marinara sauce in it with a deep dish crust. It has got a larger fan base with its crust baked in a well-oiled pan resulting in a caramelized crunchy edges. The unique feature of this pizza is that you have two types of cheeses in it like the Cheddar and brick which gives a charred effect.
This pizza is thin and served in triangles as-usual. The toppings are heavy with a combination of cheddar, provolone and Swiss which is a special cheese by the name Provel and the pie is made up of sweet oregano sauce of tomato. It had its origin in a place named Imo at Gemignani.
NEW HAVEN PIZZA:
This pizza is assisted by coal-fuelled ovens which reaches a temperature of 1000 degrees and is made with cheese of dry nature, delivers a charred crust of a backyard grill. Has ingredients like the tomatoes, cheese, clams.
MACRONI AND CHEESE PIZZA:
This pizza is a favourite for kids as they love cheese and macaroni. Ingredients are simple which consists of Mac n cheese, milk and cheese sauce and macaroni with oil. The shredded cheese and macaroni make the best pair and this pizza comes in square shape. In some restaurants, you have bacon as a topping with sliced corn dogs.
It consists of a thin layer of pizza dough which is used for sealing the delectable ingredients. The ingredients are stuffed into it which makes it unique and the final pie is covered with tomato sauce and with a little amount of Parmesan. It is not to be confused with the deep dish pizza.
NEW YORK STYLE PIZZA:
This pizza crust is thick so that it can handle heavy toppings from pepperoni and sausage to mushroom and anchovies. It also has oregano, red pepper flakes, garlic powder and parmesan. It is cooked in a wood or coal burning oven. Deck ovens help in the creation of delicious, gooey and crispy result.
Don’t think that the name of the pizza is related to Greek and has its origin in Greek, it has nothing to do with it. As it was created by Greek immigrants to America and it was introduced to Italian Pizza. It has a puffier crust and is chewier than the other thin crust pizzas. It uses a different tomato paste that has a strong oregano flavour and a blend of cheddar and mozzarella cheese.
This pizza is a North-eastern speciality and is served at bars. These are thin crusted covered with a layer of moon crater speckled cheese all over the pizza and the size is small enough to be eaten between two drinks.
It is a basic flatbread pizza that is coated with oil, tomato, garlic and oregano and with chili flakes. It was used to store on voyages as that helps the sailors in cooking them when they are away from home.
This pizza is named after HM Queen Margherita of Italy and is made of toppings like tomato, mozzarella cheese and with basil, this is mainly to represent the red white and green flag of Italy. This pizza style is known to many but its history and reason for it are unknown.
In Indonesia, the unknown styles of pizza are the Balado pizza, satay pizza and the Peking duck pizza. In Italy, we have the pizza Romana, pizza capriccioso and the pizza Quattro stagioni. In Malta, the styles are the Fungi, Rucola, Bolognese and the kebab pizza.
In Norway, there is a pizza by the name Saturday pizza which is shaped to a pan and with a mix of minced meat and tomato sauce. In Sweden, we have the calzone, Frutti di mare and the vegetarian. In Israel we have the pizza with corn and za’atar that is very delicious but has not been known for a lot of people.
